It was the solution to my chronic pain relief & cost effective for lumbar disk disease, OA, diabetic neuropathy & fibromyalgia. 40mgs. per day PRN pain.
What is the longest time (anyone has heard of) for Methadone being prescribed for pain management?

Where i live if u go to a methadone clinic you can be a life long customer if you choose so. If you go to a pain managment doc you can get prescribed for a lifetime as long as your still hurt and the doctor doesnt shut down. Meth clinic is the longest but they dont accept insurance
Seriously Helene,
Is your blood pressure, diabetes type 2... etc gonna get any better? Neither is your pain unless a miracle from above strikes you with a bolt of lightning.
And you are already "labeled" a drug addict, have you ever thought of Suboxone to take forever? I loved it for the month I was on it. Relieved my pain better than class 2 meds, its a class 3 med.
Just a little information.
Peace,
Sweet Hippie
PS... I will be on pain meds for the rest of my life because my diseases aren't getting any better, just worse.
Hi Helene, I'm on methadone prescribed by a pain clinic, it's the best medication I've been on in 6 yrs. Not nearly as much pain.I do get breakthru meds too, as long as you don't mess up ..taking unperscribed meds things like that, you'll be good as long as the Dr doesn't go out of business things of that nature. I and not on a overly high dose and don't plan to be. As long as I'm comfortable. I have chronic pain ave I will be on meds my entire life also. Just yourself the right Dr and stick with him/her. I went they that. Thin me months to find a good one. I got him and not Lettin go..lol.
Peace out,good luck.
Lori

30yrs ago I was puty in jail while on a maintenance clinic (80mgs) liquid per day. In conservative Oakland Cnty. Pontiac, Michigan they were NOT tolerant or sympathetic to drug addicts in the early 70s. *which hasn't changed much to this very day (stigma) as soon as you mention Methadone for palliative, cheap effective pain management... the doctor accuses you of being a drug addict. Hey, I'm sorry doc but I've had disks ruptured, lumbar laminectomies 3x, and living with scar tissue, OA, lupus for the past 10+yrs.
I say to other patients who may be going thru chronic, moderate/severe pain issues... SHOP FOR THE RIGHT physician... just like you do for groceries, cars or electronics. Why deny YOUR BODY the same consideration you give to a plasma-television?

My doctor is excellent (he does whatever I tell him to do) LOL. But seriuosly when I moved to a suburb outside of Metro Detroit, the first few questions I asked his nurse on the phone; Does he speak english? What do YOU & the staff think of him? he is an Internist, wonderful; found out I had Diabetes II, when others were treating me for 'leg rash, edema' etc. like i was infected witih MRSA... anyways.
I kicked the methadone in jail and promised NEVER to get a high dosage again. I was "flu-like" achy, jumpy for 2 mos.
right now, I've been on 20-40mgs. per day since 2001. I'm fine with it, so is the prescribing doctor. I thought that 240mg. was quite,*no wait*, EXTREMELY high, enough to drop a horse. and dont like my own personal life being dictated or controlled by "hope it comes in the mail" hope the pharmacy nearby HAS IT IN STOCK." hope another celebrity doesn't o.d. so the DEA and Feds start riding the good docs who work with Palliative Pain Control/Management.
thanks for listening, but I started decreasing myself, and slowly I can get the pain level low enough to go about my daily activities. thanks for sharing, but I have been on methadone over 10yrs. and we discussed it (doc & me): I used the analogy of this "Hey I'm on water pills, blood press.meds & anti-glucose meds FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE... What's wrong with being on low, cheap dosage of an effective sched.2 pain med? he agreed and I dont see why they would rather give a patient Vicodin or tramadol, which trash your liver panels with all those mgs. of Tylenol... it was devastating to my gastro-intes. ulcers, feeling like crap all the time. Methadone, at a steady low dose has helped me be productive again, at the age of 59... I'm pretty good.
Peace, Helene
We have a lot in common.

If somethings not broke then why try to fix it? sounds like you gave your own answer. I suffer from the same problems as you other than taking methadone. I did for chrontic pain & hated it, but to each their own, & if it's working I wouldn't change a thing... Mary
