I am a nursing student and recently had two panic attacks within a week, and the last one was so debilitating that I couldn't eat, sleep or study. After 24 hours without relief I went to the doctor who prescribed zoloft 50 mg and xanax 0.5 mg PRN for anxiety. The zoloft has been making me shaky and nervous in the morning and I have to take one xanax in the morning and a half to a whole Xanax in the afternoon. I am worried about dependence because I find myself feeling I need Xanax at the slightest bit of anxiety. I know that it will take several weeks for the Zoloft to kick in, but I'm wondering if I will easily be able to wean off Xanax? I don't want to feel the need to take Xanax daily!
Tell this to the Dr and allow him/her to help you, doing this on your own is asking for trouble, especially with this combination. Go slow and with the Dr's oversight.
I myself don't have an answer for you but I'm in a similar situation I'm weaning off lexapro and starting week 2 of Zoloft 50 mg. I take vistaril as a PRN. My anxiety has skyrocket! I'm worried about every little thing that I didn't worry about: things like death an dieing. I feel like I'm going crazy! I've totally lost my appetite. Its tough to get out ta bed I'm full of despair and distress. Its awful I wanna cry like all the time. I have no energy, and not excited about the future its awful. It has become dibilitating totally emotionally exhausting. I'm in PANick mode all the time. While we may not be entirely be in the same situation I'm hip ng you stick it out the same as me and their will be light at the tunnel:)
