I Have a 6 yr old, who was diagnosed with autism. He is very hyper and has lots of behaviors, doctor recommended intuniv so we tried 1 mg for 3 weeks and now we are on 2 mg. I dont know if we made the right choice, i dont know if i should have waited longer. He hates drinking pills and he has no speech, so he cries a lot and we have to force him to take it. Please if you have any recommendations. I will greatly appreciate it.
If this is not an Extended Release product, you may try to crush it and put it in a food that your son loves. You might want to taste test it just a tad to see if it's awful or appealing. If it doesn't have much of a taste, you could wrap it in a caramel or something healthier but similar in consistency. You need to put it in a small serving that you know he will consume. Otherwise he may not get the full dose. Ask the prescribing Dr. for tips on getting your son to take it. Someone in the office probably has some ideas learned from other parents. Why not put your question in the autism group for other parents to answer? They will know far more than the general group.
You are still working on increasing the dosage and it may take more weeks to get him at the best dosage for him. He needs several weeks on each dose for you to determine it's effectiveness.
