I have been on it 31 with no change at all in depression or anxiety from what I hear it should have started to work by now I started on 10 mgs for 17 days and have been on 15 mgs the last 14 days I'm so scared please approve question
Hi, Theresa! If it's been 31 days and you've felt no change whatsoever, it's time to reconsider the choice of Lexapro.
*You and your doctor might increase the dosage to the 20mg max to see if that helps.
*You might consider adding another med, like Abilify, which could work with the Lex to improve it's effectiveness.
*You might try another antidepressant.
Different classes of AD's work in different ways. There's no test or study that can be done to see which one will work best ~ it's not like a culture that can tell a doctor which antibiotic will be most effective. Some people just have to keep trying until they find the one which works best for them.
After a month you most certainly should discuss your lack of improvement with your doctor and ask for some options!
I wish you the best of luck. Please let us know how things go for you!
Hi, you are right, usually the induction period lasts around 4 weeks/a month, by then you should notice a difference in your depression & anxiety. Of course, everyone is different, and some people advise to give a new antidepressant 6 weeks before deciding if it is for you or not. It might be a good idea to do as wcv has suggested, and talk to your doctor about another increase or the addition of another medication. I am on a combination of medications which work very well for me. I hope you are feeling better soon!
Before you kick it to the curb, see if the dose needs another adjustment. Everyone has their level and you may not have reached it. It ought to make you feel like one day is pretty good, but other days not so much. Over time it steadily improves. If dose is low, you have not reached your plateau yet. Usually a person will wait about three months for full effectiveness.
I was wondering what is making you scared. Have you ever seen the YouTube video about David and the Dentist? He wanted to know if this is forever. Your condition is not forever. Please remember. Keep working with your therapist and find new skills to help you. The two together is your "cure." And never forget that anyone can have a bad day or even week. Can you imagine what it is like to be President? I think you will be fine. Slow and easy. Find something new to do in your comfort zone. Volunteer to teach a kid to read. We don't worry when we help others. You can get through this. Karen
I have been on antidepresants all my life, it usually takes anywhere from 4-6 weeks to reach it's therapeutic level..having said that u have been on it 4 31 days with no relief... I would see my prescribing doctor... a.s.a.p... it could be that it is just to low of a dose... but that is the doctor's call not mine to make..I would make an appt. a.s.a.p... good luck and hope you come back telling us that u r doing better..
I agree with the above posters... you have already given lexapro 4 weeks the therapeutic level is 4-6 wks... but u should have felt some form of relief by now... in my opinion I say make an appt with your doc immediately and tell him what is going on it sounds like lexapro is just not cutting it for you..he might take u off completely off and try you on something totally different or try adding another med with it to see if it helps..good luck and hope u find something that works...
