my mum was told she had phychotic dementia, which is a form of depression ,we are told she will get better but dr said that trazedone is a fairly new drug, but when she had her assessment with the phychiatrist he said it was old,she has been using trazedone and nothing has really changed, she has violent headaches, tremors and dreadful axiety attacks,it has now been 2 months.
Pledge is correct in his timeline... it came out after the tricyclics..Elavil,Pamelor, etc generic names amiptrip... nortript... cannot spell
but before Prozac, Zoloft, and Paxil... meds known as SSRi's Selective Serontonin Reuptake inhibiters... or serontonin specific reuptake inhibitors
It was marketed as an antidepressant with poor results, but is used "off label" as a sleep aid and helpful with anxiety
Just my opinion as the drug relates to me probably not a drug of choice for psychotic symtoms May be useful for sleep
