I've been taking Lamictal for 6 months for newly diagnosed bipolar 1. It seems to work very well for a couple months, and then I am having to up my dose. Is this normal? I am also taking a low dose of Prozac in conjunction with Lamictal and still experiencing Mania. Does Lamictal help wit mania? Thank you!
I was on 20 mg Abilify and 25 mg of Remeron. Made me crazy anxious. They added lamictal to help out. I was taking 50mg twice a day for a few week. Finally felt leveled out and open minded. Worked great. But I started getting the rash and swollen lymph nodes and through. So had to stop taking lamictal. Now we are back the square one. I think lemectil will work. It took about a month to see the change... and the side effects.
I hope someone answers this question, as I too am going through this up and down, discouraging ride.
I have been on the generic form of lamictal for about a year now starting out at 25 mg. I am now at 125 mg which to be honest isn't doing as well as I had hoped.
Like you, I will be on a certain dose and then a few months later, have to titrate up another 25.
I have read some people don't reach the so-called sweet spot until about 200 mgs. I'm not sure what the diagnoses that was for exactly, but I have read 125 mgs is the therapeutic dose (ugh) for people like me, a mood disorder consisting of depression, anxiety, insomnia... and for me, the anxiety is like I can't even describe. Whenever I get this way, I am so scared I'm going to go back to the way I was because the dosage will never be enough. Well that's anxiety for ya.
I have another appointment with my prescriber next month, but since I saw her six months ago I've had to titrate up and am in the process of going to 150 right now. So, I don't know what the dosage is because everyone is different, but I haven't seen any answers to questions like ours. I mean a year in and I've titrated up 5 times?!
