This can be a tuff treatment to do. Hopefully your cat is easy to work with. The drug Gentizol works well but you must apply it daily for about two weeks. Clean the ear of as much of the red looking discharge gently with a dry cotton ball. This does contain a steriod so you may want to wash it off your hands when done. Work the medication into the ear and massage the ear to cover the inside surface, be gentle. I try to sit and rub his ears often when I am not using the medication. Just a little rub and a treat, that way he will start to be tolerant. Good Luck. If your cat is still itching and you see the reddish, dry discharge you will need to return to your vet.
