the ear drops are neomycin and polymyxin b sulphates and hydrocortisone otic solution. My husband has been using the drops for 3 days and not feeling much relief. How long should it take for his ear to feel unclogged?
Neomycin ear drops are used to treat bacterial ear infections. The active ingredients are neomycin and polymyxin, antibiotics that kill bacteria, and hydrocortisone an anti-inflammatory corticosteroid that helps with swelling and pain.
Neomycin ear drops will only relieve the symptoms of bacterial ear infections. It is hard to know when the drops will take effect as it will depend on the severity of your infection and your immune response. If your diagnosis is incorrect it may not work.
Continue to use the drops.
It is important that you fill the ear with the drops (around 10 drops) and for best results lay still for a while so the drops can not run out. Alternatively plug the ear with cotton wool after dosing.
Wait for a few more days and if your husband is not feeling any signs of improvement he should see his doctor again.
