I started taking Prozac 20 mg 2 weeks ago for anxiety and depression. I was also given .5 mg of Xanax to take up to 1 x daily as needed for panic attacks. After one week on 20 mg I called the psychiatrist and requested the dosage be reduced to 10 mg as I felt like my anxiety was through the roof. He reduced to 10 mg for one week and then wants me to go back to 20 mg. I have taken the 10 mg for a couple of days now and feel a little less crazed but my anxiety is still unbearable at times. It is a constant but the intensity seems to come in waves. The .5 mg of xanax helps but 1 x daily as perscribed has not been so great. So, going into week three now should I expect some relief?
it; Yes your doing everything right and this is very common to have the problems that we are taking these types of medications to have the effects like anxiety to increase for at least a few weeks when we first start them and slowly these go away as you increase the time you are taking the Prozac normally it can take 6 to 8 weeks to reach the full benefits of the medication. If you are still having problems you should have the doctor increase the dose of the Xanax while your system is adjusting to the Prozac . Best of luck and continue to take the medication.
