I am peri-menopausal and was bleeding heavily every day for over a month. My NP suggested taking 800mg Ibuprofen 3 times daily for 5 days and the bleeding slowed significantly (this is because Ibuprofen affects prostaglandins, separately from its effects on pain and inflammation). As soon as I stopped taking Ibuprofen I bled heavily. I had an endometrial biopsy and was diagnosed with endometrial hyperplasia (simple without atypia). Then she put in a Mirena progesterone IUD and said I could take the Ibuprofen again for 5 days, which helped. After 4 days I went down to 400mg Ibuprofen, and was still ok. Then I cut down to 200mg and started bleeding heavily again. I'd rather keep taking 400mg Ibuprofen 3 times daily than bleed, and I have no noticeable side effects. How long can I keep it up?
