I started taking gabapentin about 3 weeks ago I’m at 200 mg in morning and 300 mg at night. I have some really good days but once still about getting 4 headaches a week. So still relying too much on Zomig and getting rebound headaches. I’ve previously tried Topamax which had awful side effects same with Effexor. Really want to find something that works.
Gabapentin started working gradually, I could feel the difference with 1 week. The horrific itching, sweating, unclear thoughts, hopelessness started fading. I would say within 1 month I felt pretty good. However, I also got a new psychiatrist who changed my psych meds. The Gabapentin was a little hard to adjust since when I get anxiety, pain, fear etc my symptoms get worse. So he gave me room to use more if needed. He said some of his patients use triple what I'm taking. He also conferred with my psych and primary care. After about a month or two I remember standing in my kitchen one morning and thinking: So this is how regular people feel. Happy/good/positive and able to look at the sunlit kitchen and not have to talk myself out of using a knife on myself. NEVER GIVE UP. ps one time I tried to stop the gabapentin suddenly and went through withdrawals.
You’ve failed 2 daily preventatives it’s time to consider Botox. I’ve had a friend that’s been doing it for 10 years and it still works. I just had my first treatment and it’s working. But they say you have to give it a full 6 months and 3 treatments before you know for sure if it’s gonna work. So hopefully that means it will only get better from here.
