I am taking 5 mg escitalopram for my depression and panick attack since 1 year, now I feel better but not to the fullest therefore, I wanted to know for how long should I take escitalopram? and what are the bad effects of long term taking escitalopram?
I don't believe there is a defined limit as to how long you can take escitalopram. I've found evidence of people taking it 8 yrs. and having it work. I found no effects of taking it long term. If a person becomes suicidal or very depressed, that's a clue that it may be time to taper off Lexapro slowly and begin a different drug. (Multiple sources researched including this one.)
