... period. I am sexually active but my boyfriend and I used a condom every time and he also uses the pullout method for triple protection. None of the condoms have ever broke and I was put on antibiotics for laryngitis. What could be the problem?
It sounds like you are being very, very careful so it is not likely that you are pregnant. Let me ask you something though-has he ever put his penis in you without a condom? Especially around the time you were on the antibiotic? Antibiotics reduce the effectiveness of the pill and pregnancy is possible during this time and even if he just put it in for a bit, then put a condom on, he can secrete sperm all throughout the sex act, not just during ejaculation. Really, it is not necessary to pull out during ejacualtion. It really doesnt offer a great deal of protection because, as I've said, men secrete sperm all throughout the sex act and it is difficult for men to do and it does decrease his enjoyment a great deal. If you never had any penetration without a condom then you are very unlikely to be pregnant. On occasion, while on the pill, women may skip periods, especially if you spotted between periods. Since antibiotics decrease the effectiveness of the pill, some women spot a bit while they are on them so then they may not have a period during their "off" time. This could be what happened. Normally, the pill is very effective against pregnancy and condoms are more for protection against STD's than for contraception, after you have been on the pill for those first seven days. The only time you need condoms, when you are monogamous and sure your partner is disease free, is during and after antibiotic therapy unless you tend to forget pills and just want to be extra careful. It is your choice, of course, but it is really not necessary for him to pull out, condom or no condom, while you are on the pill because it really doesnt offer much protection against pregnancy anyway, and he (and you) will enjoy sex much more without the added stress of worrying about pulling out. Try not to worry so much-birth control is designed to allow you to enjoy your sex life without worrying about pregnancy. If he did penetrate you skin to skin, without a condom, while you were on the antibiotics or within the seven days after you finished the antibiotics then I would recommend a pregnancy test. If you used a condom from start to finish always, then I would just wait because it is very unlikely that you are pregnant. If you miss the next period then you do need to test and call your Dr. All the best Cindy! Let me know if you have any more questions. I used to be a family planning nurse. Dzoo
