What happened to Dextroamphet? Any cheaper alternatives? No Insurance.
Dextroamphet is the generic version in tab form. Glasco doesn't make the brand name anymore and the only one that still makes it is Teva out of Israel. apparently they haven't been making them lately. We have tried every pharmacy in a 20 mile radius including Costo, Sams,Walmart, Kroger, Walgreens, CVS and several mom and pop places. I was wondering if this is a nationwide problem, or just here around Dallas. The replacement, capsules, are $1000 for a three month supply. We were paying $100 for the three month supply for tabs. Was wondering if anyone else has come up with a better solution.
I found that Mallinkrodct does have a patient assistance program and they make what they call dextrostat, basically dextramphetamine in 5 mg tabs as well as 10 mg tabs and time released capsules I found the only other manufacturer for capsules was Barr. I'd search online for mallinkrodct (spelling?) and see if your dr will call and get an assistance app for you. I'm having the same issue with my adderall its shot way up in price and I used to be on dextramphetamine, its the best for narcolepsy I believe. I'm going to try and get switched but im on 3 20 mg tablets a day so I dont know what the equivalent would be with dextramphetamine, the highest mg is 15 I think and its time released. Oh, about the quantity question, for effective therapeutic effect an adult needs several a day bc they used to only come in 5 mg, so it seems excessive but its just a low mg.
