I was recently diagnosed with bipolar disorder. I am scared about taking lithium?
Hi! Lithium may be taken morning or evening... your preference... but maybe take it with a meal or snack to prevent any stomach distress and be sure to take it about the same time every day.
I've been on lithium for over 5 years now with no problems or side effects and it's been a wonder drug for me... the only medication that controls my rapid cycling.
Lithium has been around since the 1950's and so has been thoroughly evaluated for safety and efficacy and is still consider the gold standard medication for Bipolar disorder.
One thing you should be aware of is that you'll need routine blood tests... every 3 - 6 months... to be sure your blood levels are within therapeutic range.
