I am having thyroid problems.
Hi, Harley! In a few patients lithium can contribute to hypothyroidism (low thyroid), but hypothyroidism is also commonly found in patients with depression/Bipolar disorder.
Has your doctor scripted a blood test for you?
I was was mildly hypothyroid before I began taking lithium and so I was already on a thyroid supplement.
Just one more medication to take! :-} Best wishes, WCV
I've been taking a very high dose of Lithium since I was 6, and by 8th grade I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism. My doctor said that I'd need to take Levothyroxine (a thyroid medication) to help control my massive weight gain. She also said that I had to take the Levothyroxine, otherwise I'd get a thyroid cancer.
