... else the doctor can give in my i.v. so I can tolerate the pain. Discograms are very painful but have a fractured disc and this is why the second need could not tolerate. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Oh, he gave me versed all at once... I read where it should be given a little at a time rather than all at once. Does this make a difference? This doctor had no tolerance and quickly stopped when I was yelling
I had one of these and I have told my docs that they better have gotten what they needed from that one because I wasnt keen on doing it again! They are extremely painful!! The thing with discograms is they dont want you to be pain free. The point of the test is usually to find the pain generator. With mine, they were injecting the discs to find out which one was the culprit so I had to have full feeling. I wasnt allowed to take my pain meds that day and wasnt given any until it was over. I cried and did a fair share of screeching too! I swear he was TRYING to hit nerves on the way in! It did help to find out that the L5-S1 was the one causing the pain. Versed would be the best thing to give you. They can give it all at once. It keeps you alert enough to find the pain generator but has an amnesic effect so that you shouldnt remember the pain so much once it is all over (if they give enough)
You may want to ask your doctor if a anesthetic discogram is a possibility... In a nutshell instead of recreating ones pain this technique tests to see if the pain goes away. I believe dye can be added if they want to do some additional imagery. Google it as there are quite a few articles on it and then talk to the doc to see if it might work for you. Good luck
