My depression has tortured me long before the financial situation occurred. Never sought help before now. What (if anything) can I do for my first step towards getting help. Not in debt but no credit either.
In my county, I assume u live in the US, there is a county program where you can get therapy for a very discounted price based on income. If you had no income, it may be free. Also if you wanted to start on meds, a psychiatrist could see you on the same pay arrangement. Ask doctors around if they know the name of it. Or look it up online. Or your local health department should know the name of it. Keep trying and I hope you feel better soon.
There are lots of studies that show that cognitive therapy is as effective as medication. Now clearly folks on this site are going to be stacked in the meds department but that's not to say those studies are wrong.
The feeling good book is an excellent self examination cognitive therapy book.
Libraries near you might have it for free.
Also try to find out where to go in any health emergency in your area,
And breathe deeply
You really need to get help for your depression. Since it has been for a long time, you probably would be best to take an anti-depressant. Once the depression is better, then everything will be easier for you--getting another job, being able to work and enjoy your life again. With limited money, you would be able to get financial assistance to get health insurance through Obamacare at healthcare.gov. But to get insurance in 2017, you need to sign up for it during the signup period which I think may be in November. Otherwise you will be waiting another year to get any insurance. Take care of yourself. It's important. Depression also has a lot of bad physical effects on your body. It is a physical illness that affects both your mood and your body. Let me know if you have any questions. You take care.
