Is lidoderm useful for lower back pain when other treatments have failed ?

Its worth a try that's for sure.
If it's surface/muscle related it might. If that's the case there's an over the counter product called Salon Pas (or something close to that) works very well, but neither will do much for deeper issues.
It has helped my occasional low back pain a LOT, and I am on a moderate dosage of a powerful narcotic pain RX 24/7. Helps with the breakthrough pain I get in my back and neck. I consider it to be very useful!
After my back surgery the healed incision area was so painful I couldn't stand it. The 5% lidoderm patch worked very well
