Hi, Debbie! The only way to know if Lexapro will work for you is to try it. It helps millions of people, but in some it has no effect or causes side effects that people can't tolerate and it affects each person differently.
Here is some information that may help you including possible side effects:

Keep in mind that because a side effect is listed does not mean you'll have it ~ on average only 10% of users experience them although you'll probably hear horror stories to the contrary ~ and that for most people the mild to moderate start up effects only last a few days to a week or so.
Your doctor may start you on a low dose to acclimate your metabolism to the drug and then gradually increase the dose if needed. This helps to minimize potential side effects.
Feel free to post any questions or concerns you may have. We're not profssionals but can share a wealth of personal experiences and information.
Best wishes, Wildcat

Debbie, Sorry, I didn;t know that you'd already been taking your Lexapro for 3 weeks. While nausea and drowsiness are common side effects of starting antidepressants they usually occur immediately ~ even after the first dose. It would be very unusual for them to start up 3 weeks later.
Perhaps your doctor is correct that this is an underlying problem that's unrelated to the medication and you should follow her/his advice unless this thing persists much longer. Did she/he prescribe any medications or discuss OTC remedies? WC
