I'm taking lexapro and have been on 5mg for 1 month. 10mg for 1 week and now on 20 for about 12 days. So in total about 6-7 weeks. It's still not working even though my doc says he notices some improvement. But I still feel terrible. I told him shouldn't I feel much better by 6-7 weeks? But he wants me to start counting since I started the 20 mg because he says the lower doses were not even doing anything. I'm really confused cuz I feel like I've been on it for an adueqete amount of time in my opinion. Has anyone had a similar experience where it eventually kicked in?
You have really only been on a true therapeutic dose for 17 days, and for the 1st week during that time were on a very low therapeutic dosage (10 mg.).
Your doctor has titrated you up to the 20 mg. dose for only the last 10 days, which shows you seem to be at least tolerating it well! Honestly, most go to 20 mg. as a standard dose, and I think the dosages you were previously on were sub-optimal for you. I personally started on 10 mg./day and wow, I still remember the Lexapro sample boxes I used to get many years ago--when Lexapro Brand was even still very new! Each sample box included one week (7) 10 mg. tabs. I would begin counting from the day you began the 20 mg. Tabs, which has been only 10 days? That is not generally a fair trial of the medicine... Since you have been tolerating it well thus far, I would suggest giving it a chance for at least 30 days at the least. I'm not a doctor and this is just my opinion, but I have been on Lexapro since around its initial release and know the drug very well. Best of luck!!
