My daughter is no longer eligible for my insurance (she is 28) but she is also unemployed. I am on a fixed income and cannot afford to pay for her medications. I am wondering if there is a way she can qualify for either free or reduced payments for her medication - Lexapro. Without this medication, her anger is completely out of control an she cannot keep a job. I s there any generic version? Also, since she has no insurance and no money, are there any treatment centers she can go to in Rockford, IL area that will help her. I don't live in IL and cannot do much more than beg her to go to see someone and get back on her medication. Please help. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Currently there is no generic Lexapro available.
Patent on Lexapro doesn't expire until March of 2012... so no generic will be available for a few more years.
Also be aware, you may find a number of companies currently offering generic Lexapro online but these are most likely fake and potentially ineffective. For this reason you should avoid buying any generic drug until an approved generic becomes available.
Have you looked into any patient assisted programs?

I did some research on lexapro and found that the generic citalopram, (brand name: celexa) are related. When I was given the generic due to cost the pharmacy discountinue lexapro and adviced me that both drugs have almost the same ingredient. Now not everyone will react the same to the generic drug citalopram. I suffered with gas and yawning but I held on for a few month thinking it might go away. The gas problem went away but the yawning did not. I could not stand it, so I went back to lexapro.
No, there is no generic version of lexapro. Forest Laboratories Patient Assistance Program will provide free medication if you cannot afford to buy it. I found the following info on Lexapro website:For additional information about Lexapro, call the Forest Medical Information and Communication Department toll-free at 800-678-1605, ext. 66297.
I don't know if your daughter is still on Lexapro or not, but if she isn't I wanted to let you know that a generic form (escitalopram) is available now. I was told $7 for 30 day supply at Walgeens if you sign up for their Prescription Savings Club. This is less than my copay so it was worth the cost of $25/year to sign up.
There is no generic available for Lexapro. Have you considered your local mental health clinic for a re-evaluation by a psychiatrist ? There are many medications besides Lexapro that can help with anger, depression etc. Often these medications can be provided free or on a sliding scale, based on income. I'm not familiar with what's available in Rockford Ill. but most major cities have free mental health clinics. Try calling your local "County Health Department " they should be able to help you.. Good Luck
