Just went from 10 to 20mg last Thursday and my anxiety has been through the roof and I can't stand it. When should this level out? 10mg did nothing for me, does this mean the 20 might actually have an effect? Thank you!
jerricaf; Yes it could be you were very lucky most people get this problem even on the 5 or 10mg tablets But nothing is wrong most of the medications in this group or class of drugs do this when we first start and it last from a week to 2 weeks then gets better. Also if the dr. did not tell you it takes from 6 to 8 weeks to get the whole benefit of this medication where you reach the right blood level. And hopefully feel better Now if these side effects are just to much please call your doctor and let the doctor know and maybe they well give you something for anxiety to help get through this hard part. this is common when you start the medication and when the dose is increased but they have had very good results with this medication if we could just find a way where we did not have to put up with these terrible side effects. Glad you found us lots of great people here and we just try and help people like us with problems we have all had.PLEASE feel free to post again if you have any questions. chuck1957
Jerri, How long were you on the 10mg dose? Usually a dose increase is done after about 30 days, but for most people it takes longer than that to start feeling better ~ at least 4 weeks ~ and up to 6-8 weeks to build up a therapeutic blood level.
Since you're now on a higher maintenance dose I would hope the side effects wear off in the next few days to a week or so and you start feeling better.
jerri; I was going to say this is normal for the SSRI AND SNRI CLASS OF MEDICATIONS and the hard thing is what the medication is going to help at like this one depression and anxiety etc it is weird how it makes the problems worse prior to getting better first. Just know your not alone we have almost all been there and the same thing if you have to go off of this medication at anytime remember it must be tapered down very slow or you get worse side effects than what your having now. and when you get to feeling better don't try and stop taking remember your feeling better because of the medication. Also do your best to take this medication about the same time each day. This helps keep your blood level the same have a good holiday
My MD prescribed Lexapro for an anxiety disorder, too. Like you, I started on 10mg for ten days and then dose was increased to Lexapro 20mg. Like you, I figured I'd "level out", too. It never happened. Lexapro made my anxiety worse than ever. I take Clonazepam 1mg three times per day. It helps a lot. In my personal opinion, antidepressants are simply not effective for anxiety. Benzodiazepines like Klonopin definitely have drawbacks and need to be used cautiously. However, they work. SSRIs and SNRIs have always been useless for anxiety for me.
