i started lexapro 7weeks ago(all up), for 6 weeks i was only on 5mg starter dose and ive been on 10mg for 1week... do i need to wait another 8weeks on the 10mg for full blood level(drug to b effective) or should i b at full level now?? i am keeping a diary of dates when lexapro should be becoming full effect and its really important that i know how it works & what to expect.. thankyou people in advance!!
Hi Britt, it's common to feel this way when starting an AD and waiting for that magical day when we wake up feeling better! I think our anxiety makes us so afraid that we are wasting time and the AD isn't going to work for us. I was so impatient to get relief, I also kept putting a time limit on when I should start improving on my med. But in these support groups, the good thing is we can encourage each other through the start-up process, which varies from person to person. It will happen. Sometimes it's just a matter of tweaking the dose. Don't give up, you'll get better, keep positive thoughts! "G"
Excellent comments from Dan and G mc. Britt, you just can't put time expectations on these medications because they affect every single individually differently and the problem is that we fret and fuss so much about what we perceive as not happening or what we expect will happen that we entirely miss the very subtle changes that are taking place every day. Free your mind from the idea that you're going to wake up suddenly cured of your ills because the changes will be gradual and you'll miss them. At least miss enjoying the days when you realize you ARE getting better.
You don't have long to wait ~ you've been on a half dose so it won't take another 8 weeks to reach steady state therapeutic levels in your bloodstream. Try to find something positive to enjoy each and every day and next thing you know... you'll be grand! Keep posting, okay?
