Online I misread how long it should be kept in. (I have been keeping it in 28 days, for 3 months now) ... now I know it's 21 days. The nuva ring website is kind of unclear about leaving the ring in too long! If I left it in 28 days, take it out the 28th day and put a new one in a week later am I still protected? I had unprotected sex 2 days after I took it out, and on day 3 got my period like I usually do. Should I look into taking plan b?

So were you not taking the week break? Were you taking it out and putting a new one in right away or were you leaving it in 28 days then taking it out a week? If you were taking it out then putting anew one in the same day, then no worries, you are still protected but you really should take the week break to get your period. Most likely you were okay. I wouldnt take Plan b if it were me but if you feel better doing so, you could. You might want to ask your gynecologist (or whoever prescribed the ring) about this.I am really not sure about if you were protected leaving it in 28 days then taking it out for a week. It is not the way it is supposed to be used so it may effect your protection.
My gyno has suggested to keep my ring in for 4 weeks as appose to 3 and then a week break. it works alot better and you are protected while you have it out for that week too as long as you are consistent with the use of it then you are fine. i have been on it for almost 3 years and i have had no problems with it
