... the pen before dialing up the 18 units prescribed as my husband's dose to inject each morning. Now we are being told by pharmacy that is wasting 10 units per pen and since it was written as 18 units we will not have enough. Is it correct to do the "priming" each time he uses the pen? Thanks
Yes you will have enough insulin and then some, I had that same question when I switched to the pen and was informed that the pens are over filled and even when the pen is considered used up there will still be a small amount of insulin left in the pen. You are using close to the same dose that I use and I've never run out. The pen is calibrated to give you a complete unit when the needle is precharged so to ensure it is fully charged you dial up 2 units and give a air shot everytime, this will ensure that you get the full dose when you inject yourself. How can I tell when Lantus pen is empty, it's supposed to have 100 units. I have used 5x's 10 units?
