Due to procrastination, I waited 2 weeks to refill my prescription. I recently had 3 surgeries for DCIS and 3 underarm lymph nodes removed. Now have lymphedema. Completed radiation treatments 2 weeks ago. Having a lot of symptoms, I went to my doctor, TSH result is 44.22. How long will it take before levothyroxine will help my symptoms and return my TSH to normal level? Thank you!
Hi Susan. Bless your heart. I am sorry for what you're going through. I'm new at this and can only share what I have experienced. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism a year ago. Started the levothyroxine immediately via my family dr. Some symptoms began to ease up right away, and lab work was in normal range within a couple of weeks it seems. However, I kept an appt with an Endocrinologist, she did more extensive lab work and learned I have Hashimoto's. But she switched me to the brand medicine Synthroid. The daily headaches went away immediately and some other symptoms eased up a lot. She was adamant that it was the only one to take. There are two schools on that one. But it helped me more than the generic, I don't know why. Now at a year into the illness I have finally started feeling like myself again, almost. There are other options, such as the natural stuff. It may take you some time to find what's best for you. I highly recommend seeing a endo, at least once. I hope that others on this forum have some advice for you. Wishing you good health.
