... so their is no tolerance? For 6 months my anxiety has been constant every single day. Not panic attacks just constant anxiety it really sad. My Dr. has put me on 40mg of Prozac I'm now on week 9 its not helping. He has put me on gabapentin, hydroxyzine, Buspar on addition to the Prozac but none has helped with the anxiety. He finally prescribed 0.5mg Klonopin. I took it this morning because anxiety was bad and it nothing but make me sleepy did not touch my anxiety. I've not sure what else to try. My anxiety is so bad and will not go away I have it 24/7. Before my anxiety was like waves that came and went threw out the day and Paxil had worked to control it. Has any one had anxiety that was constant and did not go away. I don't want to believe that I have to live the rest of my life like this I'm only 47 years old. I can't live like this. Help anyone.
Hi, sunny! Unfortunately, every patient reacts differently to every medication so there's really no way to tell what drug (or combination of drugs) will be most effective for you except trial and error. But it's out there and you won't have to live the rest of your life this way! Be patient and try to think positively.
At week 9 you should be seeing some improvement, but you might consider talking to your doctor about increasing your Prozac dosage (up to a maximum of 80mg/day) or switching to another antidepressant.
Just a personal opinion, I had the best results with Lexapro and then, years later, with Effexor.
"Sleep, energy, or appetite may show some improvement within the first 1-2 weeks. Improvement in these physical symptoms can be an important early signal that the medication is working. Depressed mood, anxiety, and lack of interest in activities may need up to 6-8 weeks to fully improve."
Best regards and best of luck to you! Wildcat
PS, I wish I was back in sunny CA!!
You take exactly the same meds I do except I take lexapro instead of Prozac. Prozac made my anxiety worse. And yes, when I'm not on meds that work I have constant anxiety. I'm on week 3 of lexapro and I'm feeling good. I take 20 mg lexapro, 400 x3 gabapentin (just raised to help), 60 mg buspar and 2 mg daily of Klonopin. Maybe your dr will raise your Klonopin a little.
