... Effexor. Has Klonopin made anyone else feel really angry? The last couple weeks I have been very irritable, angry and just down right mean and that is not me.
I have been on both, I´ve taken bezodiazepines for over 25 years, and they have a calming effect on me, well, everyone is different.
Perhaps it interacts with the AD:
Interactions between your drugs
Applies to: Klonopin (clonazepam), Effexor (venlafaxine)
Using clonazePAM together with venlafaxine may increase side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, and difficulty concentrating. Some people, especially the elderly, may also experience impairment in thinking, judgment, and motor coordination. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with these medications. Also avoid activities requiring mental alertness such as driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medications affect you. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
I checked the potential side effects and this is what it says:
Klonopin side effects
Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction to Klonopin: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Report any new or worsening symptoms to your doctor, such as: mood or behavior changes, anxiety, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, or if you feel impulsive, irritable, agitated, hostile, aggressive, restless, hyperactive (mentally or physically), more depressed, or have thoughts about suicide or hurting yourself.
Call your doctor at once if you have:
new or worsening seizures;
unusual changes in mood or behavior;
confusion, aggression, hallucinations;
thoughts of suicide or hurting yourself;
weak or shallow breathing;
pounding heartbeats or fluttering in your chest; or
unusual or involuntary eye movements.
The sedative effects of clonazepam may last longer in older adults. Accidental falls are common in elderly patients who take benzodiazepines. Use caution to avoid falling or accidental injury while you are taking clonazepam.
Common Klonopin side effects may include:
feeling tired or depressed;
memory problems; or
problems with balance or coordination.
This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.
So after going through them, the answer is yes, you are experiencing behavioral side effects:
irritable, agitated, hostile, aggressive.
I suggest you inform your Doctor.
Best of luck, masso.
Certain generics have made me very irritable and have angry. If, you cannot find another generic that helps you or your doctor doesn’t want to fight insurance for brand name medically necessary. I would try a low dose of diazepam. I had a much calmer and stable mood on diazepam since the only generic I could take of clonazepam was discontinued.
I hope that helps somewhat.
