I'm having a headache once or twice in the month which is unbareable to me and I'm not able to do any thing for this?
There are three major headache types: tension, migraine, and cluster
Tension is constant pressure around the temple, neck, and back of head. They occur when you are tense. Unlikely to cause unbearable pain though.
Migraine type headaches are generally only affecting ONE SIDE of the head. If its affecting both sides, it is unlikely a migraine. These are quite painful and do debilitate people who have them. This could be likely the cause.
Cluster headaches are just as debilitating, but more rare. They show up in clusters randomly. They may show up for 1-3 days at a time then go away for a month, or a year. There is no known cause. However they occur near the eyes and cause watery eyes and runny nose.
There are also sinus headaches and rebound headaches. Sinus is from a sinus infection. Rebound is from using head ache treatments for an extended period.
Treatments for any are ibuprofen or tylenol. Migraines can be diminished in severity by laying in a dark room.
If this is the WORST headache you ever experienced, it could also be a stroke. Definitely worth being checked out. Also the doctor can prescribe sumatriptain for migraine treatment if he determines the signs/symptoms to be more consistent with migraines. They abort the migraine quickly if used properly. Once a headache begins, its harder to treat than if its treated just prior to occurring.
Your doctor will be able to tell you more once he tells you what type of headache it is after he examines the full set of symptoms and triggers.
Your pharmacist can answer any questions you have regarding headaches as well if the doctor diagnosis them. Otherwise they can tell you general information about the types of headaches as they can not diagnose you.
