I have anxiety over meds. First time I tried celexa for 4 days was my first time with antidepressant I scared myself with reading the info pamphlet. Also i had bad stomachaches. So i stopped taking it. After trying provac, paxil, buspar, my dr. Whom is very nice suggested trying celexa again with an open positive atitude. I take it for Gad, panic attacks. So I was just wondering if anyone had some words of encouragement for me to help me give this medicine an honest try. I also take lorazepam for panic attacks. Please help.
I've been on celexa for a few months and I take for my GAD too. When you first start taking it, you're going to have a few side effects as your body resets and gets used to thge medication. I had dry mouth, dizziness, anxiety, but don't worry they will go away after a while. Don't let the pamphlets scare you. The meds really have helped me out a lot and they will help you too. It takes a few weeks to get the full benefits of the meds, but you will feel so much better. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. Remember, you're not alone.
Hi there. Dont let the pamphlets scare you, they're more for doctors than us anyways. Lots of big words to try and confuse you. Dont get me wrong, they do contain important information to help you know the possible side effects. Ive been on 60mg of Celexa for over a year now. I take it for the same reasons as you do, GAD and depression. It has done wonders for me, and the side effects only lasted the first week. Earlier this year, the doctor placed my 18yr old daughter on Celexa for depression. She had no side effects and it helped her tremendously with her situation. She bounced back and is now her old self again. She started at 40mg and then after 3 months, was increased to 60mg.
Try not to let the pamphlets scare you. Give it a chance, it could be the break you've been searching for, Littlebear. You may not have any side effects at all, and if you should have some, they may be very minimal at best. If there is anything else I can offer you, please feel free to get in touch. I'd be glad to talk with you about it. Peace be with you, Tee
i liked celexa alot to start with, but after six months i have decided to stop it, because i feel i need to up the dosage and i would rather try it alone for a while... i found i was not depressed which was great, but i had no sex drive, i gained weight and i lost my passion for life... i think for me, it is better to take xanax as needed for anxiety, rather than be on an antidepressant.. everyone is different... which is why it is best to go with what feels best for you... there are so many choices out there, so good luck and go for what suits you the most... good luck littlebear13...
I have been taking the gerneric celexa called citalopram hydrobromide (4.00 for 30 day supply at walmart ) for over 10 years. I started on 40 mg. I went up to 80 mg which is high my doctor said. Celexa is a pretty safe drug compared to other choices and usually has less side affects than other drugs. You might want to take it with yogurt if it upsets your stomach. That will probably go away once your body adjusts to it. It does take up to 3 weeks for full effects. My Doc added clonazepam (4.00 for 30 day supply at walmart) starting at .5 mg up to 3 times a day as needed. This is an anti anxitey drug. then up'd it to 1 mg up to 3 times a day as needed and lowered my celexa back to 40 mg. I have both anxitey and depression.
I would agree with your Doc, to try it again and if you cannot find a flavor of yogurt you like try a small snack that you feel sooths your stomach.
Dear Littlebear13, Just some reassurance of my personal journey on
Celexa 20 mlgs for about 7 yrs. I never had any unpleasant side effects
on this medicine, not even in the first few days. My Dr. once tried to
increase my dosage to 40 mlgs, but I did not like more. So- I've stayed
at my comfortable 20mlg dose for years, and feel good! Good Luck~~DD~~
