I am scared to take the Escitalopram because I have never took ANY antidepressant. I want to split the 5mg into halves and start off slowly with 2.5mg. Is being scared to take this normal? I'm a severe hypochondriac as well so I am scared I am going to have an allergic reaction or die taking it which gives me a panic attack which scares me to take it. Please no judging.
I understand your fear, but honestly the escitalopram will help if you'll just give it time. 5mgs is a low dose, but you could start at 2.5mgs if you feel more comfortable. Don't be alarmed if you experience some start up side effects which should be mild such as headache and nausea. This will pass. It will take several weeks for the escitalopram to work, so be patient and give it a chance. You are very unlikely to have an allergic reaction and die, so put that out of your head. You may find this is the best thing you ever did for yourself so be strong and don't worry, it really will be ok.
Hi! We are exactly on the same boat! I have extremely bad anxiety and also hypochondria and I always get scared that I'm going to die or fall into a coma or go crazy... I also read the side effects and worry about them. My doctor started me on Escitalopram on Wednesday but said to take my first dose on Thursday. I am on 5mg and this is my second day taking it.
5mg is a pretty small dose of this drug and half of that should be just the right amount to slowly introduce your body to this drug. Taking tiny adjustments is always, I've found, a good idea. I too am not a person that likes to throw caution to the wind. I was prescribed mirtazapine and did the same as you and split the tap in half, turns out I had another drug that I am taking that don't mix with it, I found out in short order that mirtazapine was not for me. Best part, nothing real bad happened, worst part I am still looking for something that does not conflict. Good luck, I hope Escitalopram works out for you.
How are you doing, Tosha?
Have you found escitalopram makes you sleepy or more wakeful? That will be your clue as to when to take it... morning or evening. I took it for a few years and it worked fine for me. Nothing bad happened, no especially bad side effects either. Believe me, it would stand out in my mind if there had been any bad side effects! I hope all is well with you. Write if it isn't.
I tookescitalpram for 2 years after a stroke. Hallucinations got a little too real for me weaned off it and haven't started any thing new the medicines I take don't like the ones that could probably help. As with any thing else it is not the same for every one. Goodluck my typing is not so good either.
