... but after I start feeling like myself I discontinue taking it. Anyone else in a similar yo-yo situation with the drug? I've been prescribed 10mg and I don't really have the side effects when I quit so I always think I can do without when I feel better
Hi jimgee53, I'm also one of those who can use Lexapro only when I need it. For me, it's the best AntiD I've ever used.I can start taking it at 10mg and it starts working within 2 days. I stay on it for as long as I need too, sometimes a month, and sometimes a bit longer.I also have extreme GAD so I am on Xanax as well though, and use that on a daily basis. So you might consider that fact as well.We all need to remember that all of us are very different in how we need to use these AntiD's.As for me, I see absolutely no benefit to using these types of meds if I can handle the depression on my own. It's when I can't function in day to day life that I turn to Lexapro, and it put's me back in a place where I can function.I feel like I have more control over Lexapro, since I CAN go without it. I've been off of it for almost 3 years, but I know I'll likely need it again. But, like you, it has no side affects for me, either when taking it or stopping it. I suggest doing what your mind is telling YOU, and NOT what other people say.
