... effects What are the odds? I am having a large spleen ( 35 cm long) due polycythemia vera since 1990, i took hydra 500 for about 18 years, i stopped it due to reduced number of the plattlet.
Whilst I am familiar with your diagnosis I am not familiar with the drug Jakafi so I did some research and I can fully understand why you have concerns. Are you certain it was prescribed to reduce the size of your spleen ? There is no question that your spleen is larger then most. Hopefully someone taking the drug will respond to your question. I would see the haematologist or GP again and express your concerns.
Take care and good luck.
It worked to reduce my spleen dramatically at first, and then it stabilized. My spleen is still big, though. It was down to my groin area, and now it right above my bellybutton. My dosage is 15 mg twice a day and I've been on it since February 2012. I'm anemic, so the physicians are worried that if they were to increase the dosage, it would drop my RBC levels lower. I was officially diagnosed with myleofibrosis in January 2012 and that is why I started taking Jakafi. It also relieved the intense pains I was feeling in my bones.
