... I still have this depression. Though it last for several day, I'm afraid my family is being affected by my mood swings and severe sadness. I haven't tried any anti depressant med. Is there an alternative med for this kind of depression?
Do you mean a non-pharmaceutical solution?
You might try St. John's Wort, an herb found in health food stores, long known for treating depression. I used it with great success until I was diagnosed with panic disorder, when I had to take stronger meds. St.J'sW is not strong enough to treat serious depression or panic disorder AND cannot be taken with pharmaceutical SSRIs since it would overload the serotonin in your brain and cause life-threatening side-effects.
Check out Dr. Andrew Weil's site for dosage recommendations and other herbal or non-herbal suggestions. He's very good at combining Western and non-Western medical solutions. Very trustworthy and trusted by the medical community at large.
Hope this helps.
i'm going thru major depression/sadness, not to mention much physical pain associated with hormonal issues, extreme bleeding and chronic headaches. i have been treated for depression for the past 13 yrs, most recently with celexa, prozac and lithium. i feel as if i've been poisoned and i just made the decision to throw these drugs away, i want to break free as i have felt like a slave to these meds for years. sadness is overwhelming at times and i'm grateful to have a strong support system in place. i am determined to ride the withdrawal symptoms out and get to the other side. i'm also having a complete hysterectomy in march, and i'm hoping to feel like a new woman. i am 51 yrs old and i want to believe that i can start my life over and have a better one..good luck! love, sheryl
