... arthritis, fibromyalgia, etc. I live in FL and just went to the doc. on August 2, 2011. I've been on 450 Methadone a month (15 pills per day-5 pills 3xDaily). My doctor told me that there is a new law out the our Governor Rick Scott just got passed that says that doctors can only allow patients to get 8 10mg. Methadone per day. Does anyone know anything about this? Because I've heard NOTHING about this and would have been weaning myself down, but instead SURPRISE, I got cut in half all of a sudden!! Also, about 3-4 months ago I went to the same doctor and he said that there was a new law that said if I was on Oxycodone (Percocet or Roxies) and/or Methadone I was no longer allowed to have Xanax, which I also have been on since I was 17. So BAM, just like he just did the methadone, he cut me off the Xanax 2mg. bars and put me on 10mg. Valium. I really don't get that, because they are both benzos. Anybody got any clues as to what the hell Mr. Rick, THE DICK, Scott has to do with determining how much pain a person is in and what he/she should be taking. I was doing VERY well on my current meds., but not anymore
My doctor has quoted the same thing about the Methadone but he says the max is 90 mg (9 pills). I know several states have legislated various maximum dosages a person can have of specific narcotics. Washington State is one of these. The Federal government has been working for some time to adopt REMS - specific education things a doctor, pharmasist and patient must do to prescribe/get narcotics because of the high rate of addiction in our country. I haven't heard of any specific Federal legislation happening - just this "mysterious" Federal regulation my doctor says he HAS to go by regarding the Methadone. I asked my pharmacist about this (it was last Nov when I was told, and he didn't know anything about it. Could just be your doctor deciding he wasn't comfortable prescribing those amounts/types of meds - doctors are scared to death of the DEA noticing them and want to stay underneath their radar, only prescribing things that won't attract notice. Sorry you are the one who has to go through such a huge change in meds!
