I've been on methadone for 5 yrs. I started out on 10mgs 4x daily. After about a yr, I weaned myself down to 10mgs a day. I felt great. Then being the dr. prescription addict I am- went up to 30-40mgs a day. I talked my dr. into increasing it to 60mg a day
and boy am I sorry I did that. I am now weaning down again. I am on 40mg - 20mgs twice a day. I started Wednesday. I doing ok. to answer your question I don't think darvocets are strong enough to keep u from going through withdrawls. Can u not find a Dr. who will put you on a lesser dose of methadone? I have a great doctor. I have been seeing him since before my first back surgery. That was in 1997. I would try to find a good doctor and keep him. As for now, try the darvocets, get some imodium, and hold one. Dextox is hell.
I hate it. I hoped I helped a little... Good luck... Kim
I went thru an outpatient treatment and our counselor said that only 2 types of withdrawals could cause death, alcohol or tranquilizers, because you can have seizures from either of those. Please see if you can find an outpatient clinic and discuss Suboxone or methadone if you want to avoid most of the withdrawal. I keep seeing them mention the Thomas Recipe also for detox and withdrawal. I am on suboxone and it is great for me. It is about $7 to $8 a pill and I only have to take 1/2 pill daily and I am very comfortable. Most pharmacies will break the RX down to however many pills you can afford. Opiate withdrawal feels like really bad flu + stomach flu, but, I don't think you will die. If Suboxone is right for you, you will have to go thru at least 1 day of withdrawal for it to work. I think you can do that. You can go to wikipedia and other sources online to find out something about suboxone until you talk to a clinic or doctor. Just type suboxone in your search bar and it should even show you how to find a doctor in your area that prescribes it. They may charge you a set fee to treat you, that is why I went to a clinic. And please do the counseling. I promise that is the way to go. God Bless You Dear!
