I am curious how many people get diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis w/o ever having any Psoriasis? I feel confused and uncertain about my diagnosis and it would help to know if other people have experienced this diagnosis w/o the Psoriasis. From what I have read MOST people start out with having Psoriasis before having the arthritis.
Kathy: I will not be much help. I have never heard of this. I always thought if you had psoriasis there is a percentage of people who develop PSA from the psoriasis. I have PSA but also have severe psoriasis. I would get a 2nd opionion as the symptons are similar to RA. You could use Enbrel or Humira to help with the joint pain and that might would keep the psoriasis from breaking thru. and reduce the stress and pain on your joints. Good luck to you!
I too have been diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis and I have never had psoriasis. My doctor explained that because my blood tests came back negative for RA and x-rays showed significant damage to the joints in my fingers it was PSA. When I moved and started seeing a new rheumatologist she diagnosed PSA too, so I felt I got my 2nd opinion. She also said that it's possible to get psoriasis in the future. I have since seen a 3rd rheumatologist and he asked me why I was diagnosed with PSA and have never had the skin condition. I told him I asked the same thing and gave the x-ray reasoning that my 1st doctor explained to me. He seemed to agree with that but still so confusing to the patient.
