Iv been getting headaches for the past 3 months nearly every day. The come at different times of the day and are there for several hours at a time. Iv tried the usual paracetamol, etc and nothing seems to work. Since going to the doctors about it iv been given naproxen, propranolol and they both done nothing. I'm now trying zomig nasal spray and amitriptyline. And currently waiting on a MRI scan. Does anybody know why nothing's working?
They're treating you for migraine, and if its not a migraine it won't work. Can you describe the headache? Where it is what it feels like that kind of thing.
Your headaches could be caused by hormonal fluctuations. Ask them to check your hormones. Start keeping a log of when you have the headaches, what you were doing at the time, what you ate prior to the headache, stress level and the location (temples, back of head, etc.) and intensity of the pain on the 1-10 scale. You will most likely be able to see a pattern with your headaches and it will help your doctor when treating you. There are many different kinds of headaches, and they are treated differently, so you need to help narrow down.Feel better soon!
I hope that you aren't taking a pain reliever more than 2 or 3 days a week which can cause constant rebound migraine--even OTC ones. Your doctor is trying you on daily preventative migraine medications, which you need to give about 4 weeks on each one to see if it dissipates your headaches. Andn they must be taken daily. That is unless it gives you intolerable side effects. If several of the daily meds don't help you, then you are eligible for Botox which are very likely to help someone who does not respond to the daily meds. An MRA is a good idea just to rule out a condition far more serious. But that is rarely the case, then you are back to just treating the headaches. And yes, your night shifts with changing sleep hours, or hormones could also be sources of your headaches. Just keep with the treatments until you get relief. It can take awhile. Good luck.
Could be disk issues in your neck, allergies, are you sure it's migraines or stress headaches, tension in the neck and shoulder area can be super painful. Are they triggered by lights sounds smells pains? Almost anything can trigger them. Have you tried physical therapy or at least a massage.
Hello JoJo. I think the MRI will help with defining your condition. Have you had any head trauma, significant fall, car accident or anything like a ride at a carnival? Is it possible you had your head snap to the side from some sudden event? In other words were you checked for a concussion or injury? I get pretty stubborn and when I use an ER I want answers. Anything that painful lasting for days needs a better treatment. Let is know how you are doing and what they think after the MRI. Ok? Rest when you can and see if heat or cold soothes. Never more than twenty minutes at a time. Hang in there. I do hope they help you soon. Karen
Do you have any problems with your jaw and do you grind your teeth at night? Sometimes we can grind our teeth for years with no problems - then suddenly we have problems. There are SO many reasons for headaches. Best thing to do is start keeping a journal - write down what shift you worked , what you ate, what meds you tried, what times/ how was the headache - do this every day and try to look for common themes. It may be after you eat something with milk, or soy, or 2 days after working a shift with a person you can't stand, or you only slept a little - you just never know. I hope you find your answer soon - EJ23
I also have these, every since I was born I had constant headaches that occurs in the upper left side of my head it sometimes takes up to 3 pills to relieve and takes hours just to soothe. And if you can help with another problem, I am losing large amounts of EYESIGHT every year, and I am near blind I can barely see the keys a foot away from my keyboard. I need help bad
maxalt has helped my everyday migraines, if your headaches are still going on I might look into Botox injections. maybe stress, age, hormones, food/outside allergies, neck/back problems, or any trauma to the brain.
Omg I can totally relate i have always had headaches migraines but recently I got one so bad it caused me to have a seizure. They gave me nerve blocks MRI'S and nobody has and answer but unjust know it's not normal to have a headache even single day. I've taken preventive meds and it's just like I get it takes time for it to get in your system but I'm dying now I'm a mom I don't have time to be sick. Its rrsly frustrating the last time I had a bad one I went to ER and they gave me a migraine cocktail and it helped but that was a shirt term fix to my long term prob they also informed me little is known about migraines that they didn't know what causes them and so they really didn't even know how interest them that just knock you out and give you a migraine med and steroid and hope your body works it out. That's insane there has to be something out there with more of and explanation!
It sounds just like cluster headaches , sorry if it is because they are nasty. I have them for the last 3 yrs. Now. First try oxygen then sumatriptan nasal spray. I dont leave home without that spray
Thats good to know the pills take about an hour to work, and I use them daily

I have four kids that need me all I do is lay in the bed cause I can't do anything it's a nightmare even going in a car.
I had daily headaches and migraines for years the doctors couldn’t explain why blood tests was all clear scans was clear it was making every day life a nightmare and then I heard about the gluten and dairy free diet after 2/3 weeks I stop having head aches then tested myself and and a slice of pizza and with in an hour the headache come back for 3 days so knew it was this now I have not had a head ache in over a year unless I eat something with gluten or dairy by mistake please look in to this it could be the answer you have been looking for
