... anyone done this for this reason only-not drug addiction. I have never abused narcotics nor have craved them. Is this a smart or stupid choice
Something is going on and I don't know what it is. I've been hearing about so many pain clinics and doctors taking their patients off of opiates and putting them on suboxone. It is NOT a med used for long term pain control. It is used for getting people off opiates without withdrawal symptoms. It's meant for short term use. I really am concerned about this wave of doctors switching to subs for pain control. In case of an emergency, and you need strong pain control in a hospital, the suboxone will block the pain meds. You would need massive amounts to break through the subs that have control of the receptor sites in the brain. Please ask your doctor why the switch? Why put you on a med that will block all opiates in case of an emergency? There's also special precautions you must take if any procedures are done. Suboxone is a medication used for opiate addiction. If your doc feels it will control pain better than the patch, ask him to prescribe subutex instead. It doesn't have the naloxone in it and won't block other pain meds. If he says no, ask him why he feels you need an opiate blocker. I'm sorry. I just don't agree that suboxone is a good choice for long term pain control. That isn't why it is prescribed. Not only that, it's just as addicting as other opiates and harder still getting off of it. Please read up on all the stories about suboxone here and on the discussion-forum boards. This is very disturbing to me. I apologize if I upset you in any way. But this huge wave of doc's switching to subs for pain control is bothersome. Not to mention most sub doctors aren't well trained and the fees are very high!! If he tells you it isn't addicting and easy to come off of, that just isn't true.
be careful and please read up on suboxone.
i just wanted to add that suboxone cannot be used for pain relief at all i too am on suboxone i got hooked on opiates after a bad accident where i ripped my foot off. The docotor told me whn i was getting off of the oxycontin that suboxone would give me some kind of pain relief and guess what it does nothing to take the pain away at all. im not sure what kind of pain your in but when you hurt..you hurt and not even the pain killers really work they just give u a false sense of feeling good. So be leary if someone says it helps with pain because i am personally in more pain than i was when i was on opiates but trust me its worth getting rid of those chains around you and letting go of the opiates. good luck... research suboxone... i have had good luck with it... and god bless i really hope the best for you my friend
