My dad suffered TIA in Jnauary. Physically he is ok but he has speech and comprehension problems. Also he is unable write what he wants to say. He is on medication. I would like to know if medication can change behavour patterns. He is 87 but has suddenly become interested in sexual behavour. Its greatly embrassing. Please advise on how to deal with this
It could possibly be medication but it could be a result of the stroke too. Strokes can effect the brain in some very strange ways sometimes. The best way to deal with it is to redirect him and remind him that certain behaviors are inappropriate. You might ask for a psych consult too.
My Uncle had this type of stroke, & could not read nor write afterwards. It took him a long time to learn to write his signature again. He did not have the odd sexual behavior as I remember altho'. I wish him all the luck in the world. I lost my only Uncle at the age of 80, so count your blessings. A talk with his physican may help ...
I have suffered two of these and can tell you the effects are.lingering and often subtle. I did not experience the secual thing bit as a single mom in my 40s I can tell you that bizarre stuff happened. A definite copper like taste in my mouth, weird sensation like electrical currents on my scalp, definite issued.with speech, etc. I am now 56, owe my life to my amazing doctors and coumadin. So hang in there with him, look on the bright side in that you still have him. Get him to read, paint puzzles... anything to exercise his mind.
