I had been taking hyoscyamine for sometime to treat irritable bowel syndrome and now I can't find any pharmacies that carry it. Other generic forms of Levbid/Levsin do not seem to work as well as this one did. One pharmacist told me it is no longer manufactured but my doctor didn't know anything about that. If it is no longer made, what are/were the reasons for it being discontinued?
I have searched various online pharmacies and it appears that hyoscine is no longer available.
Usually decisions to stop making a drug are made for financial reasons. It is likely that Hyoscine has been discontinued because it has been replaced by safer and more effective medicines meaning that it is no longer financially viable to keep on making Hyoscine.
Talk to your doctor about finding a suitable replacement to help your IBS.
