Doing it on my own (taper) Can anything help make you feel like you want to be alive or excited about anything-I do walk- but does not seem to make me even care if I wake up in the morn. Or as the drugs go away, will my mind ever come back? antidepressants have not seemed to do any good several years ago, even at very high amounts and as many as three at a time. (That was before I started to come off of things on my own) Feeling pretty hopeless at the time. Drs. don't care- just take more drugs have always been the answer. Thanks
Hey Dog Talker,
Unfortunately, antidepressants take several weeks to a month to work even the natural ones like St. John's Wort. Taking more at a time is not the way they work as the medicine has to build in the body over time in order to be effective. Other than St. John's Wort, I know of no other natural antidepressants.
Hi Dog Talker,
You will feel better, this I promise! It just takes a while, so hang in there.
Do anything to elevate your endorphins, like eat dark chocolate, exercise like mad, have sex, and even watching comedy's can help, a good belly laugh is great for you!
Best wishes, and remember, this too shall pass!
I am trying a new treatment for medication-resistant depression (no matter what the cause): TMS - Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation - It is the same technology that MRI's use and was approved for depression by the FDA in Oct 2008. You sit in a dental chair and a machine is put up to your head and you hear a loud woodpecker sound made by the magnets. Each treatment is 37 minutes long, and after 20 - 30 sessions (5 days a week) there is a 70% remission rate - that is, the depression is completely gone. You may have to have a booster treatment once every few months, but only one treatment. The magnets/electricity cause the part of the brain that is not functioning well to speed up and work properly. I hear that insurance is starting to pay for this - google it and see if there is someone in your area that offers it. You can put in your zip code and it will locate a provider. Hope you get feeling better soon - ElizaJane23
