My wife is on Protonix but the health insurance Co. we are considering for next year does not have Protonix on its formulary.
Protonix (pantoprazole) is in a group of drugs called proton pump inhibitors. It decreases the amount of acid produced in the stomach.
Pantoprazole is used to treat erosive esophagitis (damage to the esophagus from stomach acid), and other conditions involving excess stomach acid such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Prilosec (omeprazole) is a prescription medication used to treat several conditions related to the esophagus, stomach, and intestines. It is part of a class of drugs known as proton pump inhibitors (PPIs).
They are very similar.-
I suggest you discuss this further with you doctor.-
