I rarely stay at church or at any social event... I avoid large groups or small rooms full of people. I feel so much anxiety and paranoia in social situations... I am not sure how to deal with this. I get flooded with stimulation and thoughts around people and feel like I can't breathe sometimes.
Hello, the first line of treatment for Social Anxiety Disorder are the SSRI's or known formally as Sustained Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors; some of the medications in this grouping are: Zoloft, Celexa, Lexapro, Luvox, and Paxil to name a few. Some sources are naming Effexor XR as a first line medication for Social Anxiety Disorder for refractory symptoms of this disorder, and usually implemented when there are treatment failures with the SSRI's. So, absolutely discuss this with your prescriber which treatment regimen or medication would benefit you most, and even if you are a cadidate for psychotropic intervention. Best Regards, CLM
I have very severe anxiety issues and have found that Paxil and Ativan are about the best as far as I am concerned and I have tried all the SSRI's listed here. Of course everyone is different in the way they respond but I am just saying what has been best for me. I wish you the best of luck with the anxiety it is no fun that's for sure. I would talk to the doctor and ask about the Paxil it has a dual function--- anti-depressant/antianxiety. I also have severe PTSD and sometimes it has helped that also if it's not to bad. Good luck my friend, I wish you all the best, marjorie zych
I got a trial pack for Saphris a month ago from my primary care doctor. Saphris is helping me in a lot of ways. But it fuels my restlessness! For moods I think its a good improvement definitely because I feel less extremes, and I am concentrating easier than I was before taking it, so I'll keep taking Saphris for those reasons. But, it is not an answer for my social anxiety...
btw, ty for your comments
I am still using the avoidance method to control social anxiety. It is not the answer but until my Dr and I come to some combo that works I'm staying with it. I am starting cognative therapy along with visteril. Too soon to tell but live really sucks so I'll give it an honest go. Do you have a psychologist you can talk to, they don't perscribe but I've found them very helpful with ideas to start getting you out there.
I do feel in-secured what they might think and say about me in their mind. Especially someone who is higher level then me or in a group they leaving me alone without talking to me or letting me blend on what kind of conversation they are having. I need a healing medication to heal this sickness... i wasn't like this before... It started 2-3 years ago..
