Is there a food (grapefruit?) that should not be eaten when taking synthroid?

Yes there are. You should avoid: iodine food, iodized salt, soy beans, tofu, turnips, and high-iodine seafoods, and breads containing iodine compounds.
Besides the aboved mentioned soy and iodized products, you should also avoid eating walnuts, as they can interfere with the effectiveness of Synthroid.
Calcium and iron supplements can also interfere with Synthroid and should not be taken at the same time of day.
