My Dr put me on suboxone from 80mgs of methadone a day. Ive been told i should have been reduced to 30mgs of meth before the switch. The sub just isnt doing the trick. At least one 8mg dose isnt, and i cant afford to take anymore! At 8 bucks a dose, who can? I'm gonna make my monthly app with my dr soon, what other options are there?
The difference in price comes from the generic version of subutex, and you might try asking Thor23, this question, he knows much about the 2 different versions of generic subutex. I am not an expert on this but he is, TEVA, makes one version, Roxane makes the other, try pq'ing him, he can explain it to you very well.
I was on Suboxone for a year before my Dr. switched me to subutex - (I lost my insurance and started to pay for everything out of pocket). There is a generic version on Subutex and it comes either in a large tablet, (about the size of a dime) OR a very small tablet, (size of a clonezpam if you are familiar with that drug). If not, its pretty small and hard to score... aka break up. However, if you take WHOLE tablets at a time which I think you do, it would be easier to handle the smaller tablet sublingular vs. the larger one.
Subutex also does NOT have the naloxone in it which a lot of people prefer. (I have read that a lot of people get sick from the naloxone).
I am currently weaning myself off of this being as I have been on it for over 2 years and honestly between the co-pay at the Drs. office of $90 and the pills, (they are $3.50 each) - its breaking the bank. This may seem cheap to others so I should be grateful, however between my husband and myself, (he is on this as well) - it can be VERY costly.
SO - YES, the subutex is a LOT cheaper. GET GENERIC. SUBOXONE DOES NOT HAVE A GENERIC - It ranges at most places btw. $3.50 per tablet to $5.00 for the generic -(Where I live) -
The Suboxone is anywhere btw. $7.50 and $10.00 per tab.
If you have any questions please feel free to ask. I am new to the forum but NOT new to subutex! GL! :)
**OH - you can ask the Pharmacist if they have the larger tablets or the smaller ones. My Pharmacist knows I prefer the larger ones so he makes sure to give them to me when I pick up my script... sometimes just 10 at a time... (I have done that many times). **
Hi, I actually got approved for that suboxone help from the pharm co. but it took a few weeks to get approved and by the time approval came in I had weaned myself off. You can get the 800 number online you'll need doc's fax number handy the pharm co. faxes the paperwork to dr. then you fill your section out (on paperwork) you'll need proof of your income if you are unemployed you'll need your w2 from 2011 taxes. It takes about 3 weeks so you should start the process now. I almost forgot, the rules are your dr. can only have 2 patients on the program at a time, so you MAY have to find new doc. Good Luck. -KCG
