No. Piperaquine is an antimalarial drug. It was first synthesised in the 1960s, and used extensively in China and Indochina as prophylaxis and treatment of malaria for 20 years. Usage declined in the 1980s as piperaquine-resistant strains of P. falciparum arose and other antimalarials became available. However its usage, in combination with other antimalarials, has increased recently due to effectiveness and reduced side effects comapared to that of single antimalarials alone.
