Nuvigil is a Class IV controlled substance, meaning that abuse of the drug may lead to limited physical dependence or psychological dependence. So the drug may lead to some dependence, but less than Class I substances (illegal drugs), less than Class II substances (like morphine, oxycodone, and ADHD stimulants like ritalin), and less than Class III substances (like Vicodin). If you have a history of abusing substances, it is good to let your doctor know before starting Nuvigil.
Just be sure to take as your doctor directed, and not take any extra medication. I'm not sure it would be useful to take it every other day- you might end up being sleepy half the time!
