Is it true that calcium reduces the effect of doxycycline or minocycline?

Yes. If calcium is taken around the same time as the antibiotic it can chelate with the antibiotic rendering it almost unabsorbable. For this reason Calcium should not be taken at the same time as doxycycline or minocycline. Doses should be at least 2 hours apart.
